McCain swears during debate?
September 27, 2008
Did anyone notice that McCain seemed to audibly swore under his breath when Obama brought up the Priminister of Spain? McCain clearly says the words “horseshit” twice at the 4:30 mark of this video. I guess we are now understanding why he failed so miserably among women in this debate. People noticed that he couldn’t even look Obama in the eye. He genuinely appeared to loath Obama while Obama came across as forceful yet very congenial. When the two candidates would squabble over minute details Obama would often smile and say “We can move on.”
Appearing angry never works in debates, in fact it invalidates what you say. Remember President Bush’s debate in 2004 in which he kept rolling his eyes at Kerry? It was the only debate performance of Bush’s that was widely criticized and hailed as a Kerry victory. How you speak is often more important than what you say. McCain needs to remember that if he wants to turn this thing around. He needs to look like a happy warrior rather than an old codger in a nursing home who swears at his family when they come to visit.
UPDATE
After further review, it sounds like McCain maybe saying “course not” rather than “horseshit.” It still sounds plausibly like “horseshit” but I’ve listened to it like twenty times and I’m thinking he’s actually saying “course not.” This shall be a case of, “We report, you decide.”
