It’s time for an intervention
May 6, 2008
For a few moments tonight, I think I actually believed that we might see a Hillary concession speech. But then, I guess, I had forgotten who we were dealing with. She has just lost 200,000 more votes in the popular vote count, is approximately 10 more delegate votes down, and just lost the tenth largest state in the US by 15%. And yet, she begins talking about the $35 gas tax rebate and “moving on to the White House.” I almost wanted to turn off the TV. It’s like when you’re in the presence of someone who has totally lost their grip on reality but they don’t realize it. Do you say something? Do you tell your grandma that her husband has been dead for ten years? That’s the point we’ve reached. Things are getting legitimately uncomfortable because I get the sense that she cannot let go. This was her Presidency and it’s been taken from her. It feels like just one more Freudian psychodrama delivered via the always reliable Clinton Family. After all the manufactured rage over Jeremiah Wright and the “bitter” comment I think tonight really does mark what Andrew Sullivan has dubbed “The End of All That.” And it really is a sign of Bill and Hill’s collective mania that they are entertaining lending the campaign more money. For what reason? What could be the possible rationale for continuing this campaign? They just do not know when to stop. I find their monarchial sensibility totally infuriating and yet tonight, the voters put an end to the madness. Here’s russert.
